Adrien Desjardins

Adrien Desjardins is a Professor at The University of British Columbia, jointly appointed in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on imaging and sensing, robotics, optics, ultrasound, machine learning, with applications in marine and biomedical fields. Dr. Desjardins received his B.Sc. from UBC (2001) and his Ph.D. from MIT and Harvard University (2007). He was a faculty member at University College London from 2011 to 2024, becoming Full Professor in 2019. He joined UBC in 2024. His work involves close collaboration with industry partners.

Adrien Desjardins is a researcher at the University of British Columbia with expertise in Sensors, Imaging, Robotics, Photonics, Acoustics. His work focuses on developing advanced imaging techniques for biomedical applications, including optical coherence tomography (OCT), optical frequency domain imaging (OFDI), and photoacoustic imaging. He has contributed to the development of high-resolution 3D endoscopy, intracoronary imaging, and all-optical ultrasound imaging systems. His research also explores methods for improving image quality through speckle reduction and the use of composite materials for optical fiber coatings. Desjardins' work bridges photonics and acoustics to enhance diagnostic capabilities in clinical settings.
