Regular biography
Francisco Castro is an Assistant Professor of Decisions, Operations and Technology Management at the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management. His research focuses on the operations and design of markets, with emphasis on their spatial and incentive aspects. Castro joined the UCLA Anderson faculty in 2020 and was previously a postdoctoral research scientist at Uber. His work explores the design of optimal pricing policies and contracts for digital marketplaces, including ride-hailing platforms. He has published in journals such as Management Science and Operations Research, with research topics including surge pricing and spatial supply response. Castro is particularly interested in developing models that capture the fundamental aspects of markets using rigorous theory to enhance understanding and discover new applications.
