Regular biography
Bryna Kra is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Northwestern University. She received her PhD from Stanford University in 1995 and joined Northwestern as an Associate Professor in 2004. Kra was appointed as the Sarah Rebecca Roland Professor of Mathematics in 2013 and served as Chair of the Department of Mathematics from 2009 to 2012. She began a two-year term as President of the American Mathematical Society in 2023. Her research focuses on ergodic theory and dynamical systems, particularly problems motivated by combinatorics and number theory. She has received several awards, including the AMS Centennial Fellowship in 2006 and the Levi L. Conant Prize in 2010. Kra also founded the Graduate Research Opportunities for Women (GROW) program, which was recognized with the Programs That Make A Difference Award from the AMS in 2020.
