Yizhaq Tsachik Gelander

Yizhaq (Tsachik) Gelander is a professor of mathematics at Northwestern University. He received his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2004. Prior to joining Northwestern, Gelander held a Gibbs Assistant Professorship at Yale University and faculty positions at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Weizmann Institute of Science. He joined Northwestern as a professor in 2022. His research focuses on Lie groups, topological groups, symmetric spaces, lattices, and discrete subgroups of locally compact groups. Gelander was awarded the 2006 Nessyahu Prize of the Israeli Mathematical Union and gave the distinguished Nachdiplom Lectures at ETH Zurich in 2011. He was also an invited speaker at the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians.
