Lorne Whitehead

Lorne A. Whitehead is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at The University of British Columbia. His research focuses on the application of novel geometrical approaches to applied physics challenges, particularly the interactions of electromagnetic fields with microstructures. He holds over 140 US patents and numerous international counterpart patents, with technologies used in computer screens and televisions. Whitehead has founded several companies, including TIR Systems, which was acquired by Philips, and CLEARink Displays. He also serves as UBC’s Special Advisor on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Research, and is the Director of the HIBAR Research Alliance. His work includes studies of the optical, electrical, and mechanical properties of micro-structured surfaces.
