Alexandre Bayen

Alexandre Bayen is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a Faculty Scientist in Mechanical Engineering at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research focuses on Control, Intelligent Systems, and Robotics (CIR); Artificial Intelligence (AI); and Cyber-Physical Systems and Design Automation (CPSDA). Bayen has authored two books and over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He has been on the faculty at UC Berkeley since 2005 and has held various leadership roles, including Director of the Institute of Transportation Studies from 2014 to 2021. He is also the Associate Provost for Moffett Field Program Development at UC Berkeley.

Additionally, Bayen investigates the security of critical infrastructure systems, such as water SCADA networks, and the application of reinforcement learning for traffic control. His work also includes the analysis of cooperative multi-agent systems and the use of virtual trip lines for privacy-preserving traffic monitoring.
