Ruzena Bajcsy

Ruzena Bajcsy is a Professor Emerita in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EE) department at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research spans Artificial Intelligence (AI), Biosystems & Computational Biology (BIO), Control, Intelligent Systems, and Robotics (CIR), Graphics (GR), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Security (SEC). She was the founding director of the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) at UC Berkeley and played a key role in establishing Digital Humanities programs. Before joining UC Berkeley, she led the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate at the National Science Foundation and was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where she founded the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing, and Perception (GRASP) Lab. Her work includes robotics, computer vision, medical imaging, and assistive technologies. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Medicine, and has received numerous awards, including the ACM/AAAI Allen Newell Award and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Award.
