Scholar-generated biography
Prof. Michael Sutcliffe is a researcher at the University of Cambridge, focusing on the mechanical behavior of composite and metallic materials. His work explores failure mechanisms in honeycomb sandwich panels, surface asperity deformation in metal forming, and the characterization of material properties for draping of woven composites. He also investigates fibre waviness in industrial composite components and the mechanical properties of biological materials such as carotid atherothrombotic plaques. His research includes the development of simplified finite element models and image analysis procedures for fibre alignment and misalignment. Additionally, he examines lubrication in cold strip rolling and surface oxide fracture in aluminium rolling.
