Regular biography

Professor Richard Penty is a member of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cambridge. His research interests include photonics, photonic switching, photonic integrated circuits, radio over fibre, optical datacommunications, and RFID. He has worked on short reach photonic networks for in-building links, including Ethernet standards and advanced modulation formats for 100Gb/s photonic links. His research on radio over fibre led to the spin-out company Zinwave. He has also conducted research on polymer waveguide links and sub-systems for on-board and board-to-board applications. Additionally, he has worked on RFID systems, resulting in the spin-out company PervasID. His research includes photonic integration of III-V components and energy efficiency in photonic networks.
