Professor Ozgur Akan

Professor Özgür B. Akan is a Professor of Electronic and Communication Engineering at the University of Cambridge, Department of Engineering. His research interests include wireless communications, molecular communications, and the Internet of Everything. He is the Chair Professor of Electronic and Communication Engineering and Head of the Internet of Everything (IoE) Group. Prof. Akan is an IEEE Fellow and has held various editorial roles in IEEE and Elsevier journals. He has served as General Co-Chair and TPC Co-Chair for several international conferences. Prof. Akan received the AXA Chair Professorship in Molecular Information and Communication Technologies (2020-2025), the Turing Fellowship from the Alan Turing Institute (2021), and several other awards. He is also the Course Director for the new MPhil in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Özgür Barış Akan is a researcher at the University of Cambridge with expertise in Wireless Communication, Space Communication, Quantum Communication, and Molecular Communication. His work explores advanced networking paradigms, including bio-inspired networking, cognitive radio sensor networks, and the Internet of hybrid energy harvesting things. Akan has contributed to the development of reliable transport protocols for wireless sensor networks and has investigated the theoretical foundations of molecular communication, including transmitter and receiver architectures, modulation techniques, and channel modeling. His research also addresses challenges in underwater acoustic sensor networks and visible light communications, emphasizing the integration of physical layer design with higher-layer protocols for robust and efficient communication systems.
