James Rothman

James Rothman is the Sterling Professor of Cell Biology and Professor of Chemistry at Yale University, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry. His research focuses on Chemical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry, particularly the mechanisms of vesicular transport and secretion within cells. His work explores the biochemical and biophysical processes of vesicle budding and fusion, as well as the regulation of vesicle fusion in exocytosis and synaptic transmission. Rothman also investigates the structural and functional organization of the Golgi apparatus using interdisciplinary approaches, including cell-free biochemistry, single-molecule biophysics, and high-resolution optical imaging.
