Regular biography
R. James Cross is a Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at Yale University, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry. His research focuses on Physical Chemistry, particularly the study of chemical systems under unusual conditions. He has conducted collaborative work with Prof. Martin Saunders on trapping atoms and small molecules within fullerenes, including gases such as helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen. His research has involved methods such as high-pressure heating, ion beams, and nuclear reactions to encapsulate these species within carbon cages. Cross has also explored the use of NMR spectroscopy to study the electronic structure of fullerenes and their interactions with trapped molecules. He has published extensively in journals such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society and Angewandte Chemie.
