Stavroula Hatzios is an Associate Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and of Chemistry at Yale University, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry. Her research focuses on chemical biology, specifically exploring molecular interactions between microbial and host cells to understand how bacterial and host cells adapt to oxidative stress during infection. Her work combines chemical proteomics, genetics, and infection models to identify proteins modified by oxidative stress and their impact on host–microbe interactions. She also investigates metabolites and catabolic pathways that influence redox homeostasis at the host–microbe interface and develops tools for detecting and inhibiting pathogenic bacteria in complex microbial communities like the gut microbiota.
