Yang Zheng

Yang Zheng is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on the optimization and control of networked systems, with an emphasis on large-scale network systems, data-driven control methods, and learning-based control. His work applies these concepts to cyber-physical systems, particularly autonomous vehicles and traffic systems. Zheng joined UC San Diego in July 2021, having previously served as a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University. He holds a DPhil (Ph.D.) in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tsinghua University. His research integrates mathematical, computational, and engineering tools to develop novel methods for control and optimization.

Yang Zheng is an Assistant Professor at UC San Diego, specializing in Control, Semidefinite Optimization, Polynomial Optimization, and Connected Vehicles. His research focuses on the stability and scalability of vehicular platoons, distributed model predictive control for heterogeneous vehicle platoons, and the influence of information flow topologies on closed-loop stability. Zheng also explores robust control strategies for autonomous vehicles, including the synthesis of distributed H-infinity controllers and the analysis of controllability in mixed traffic flow with human-driven and autonomous vehicles. His work addresses challenges in improving traffic flow, reducing time headway, and enhancing safety through V2V communication and cooperative control.
