Alon Orlitsky

Alon Orlitsky is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on communications and information theory, particularly in signal processing, data compression, speech recognition, and learning theory. Orlitsky studies interactive communication and communication complexity, exploring how communicators can minimize the number of bits exchanged. His work in speech processing and learning theory includes information-theoretic approaches to recognition, compression, and synthesis. He teaches information theory, algebraic coding, and discrete mathematics. Orlitsky joined UCSD in 1997 and is the founding director of the Information Theory and Applications Center. He holds the QUALCOMM Endowed Chair in Information Theory and Its Applications.
