Pengtao Xie

Pengtao Xie is an associate professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of California, San Diego. His research interests focus on machine learning inspired by human learning skills, particularly classroom learning techniques such as learning by passing tests, interleaving, self-explanation, and small-group learning, with applications in healthcare. His work has been adopted by medical device companies and published in top-tier AI conferences and journals. Xie has served as an area chair for several conferences, including AAAI, ICML, and NeurIPS. Prior to joining UC San Diego, he was an associate vice president at Petuum Inc, where he led AI research for healthcare and manufacturing.
