Ramesh R. Rao is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on the architectures, protocols, and performance analysis of wireless, wireline, and photonic networks for integrated multimedia services. As Director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, he oversees research initiatives involving sensor networks for civilian and homeland security applications, as well as the integration of wireless standards such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, CDMA, and 3G networks. Rao has contributed to the development of energy-efficient communication techniques for mobile multimedia users and has served on a U.S. Government panel reviewing wireless communications research.
