Regular biography

Piya Pal is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on high-dimensional statistical signal processing and data analysis, energy-efficient sketching and sampling for statistical inference, compressive sensing, sparse estimation, tensor methods, convex and non-convex optimization, optical signal processing, and high-resolution imaging. Her work involves designing energy-efficient sensing paradigms and robust algorithms for information processing of high-dimensional signals. She has developed new sampling geometries and correlation-aware techniques for sparse estimation, significantly improving the level of recoverable sparsity. Recently, she has been exploring the role of samplers in covariance compression and statistical inference, as well as algorithms for high-resolution imaging and tensor methods in machine learning.
