Shayan Mookherjea is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on photonics, nonlinear optics, quantum photonics, and nanotechnology. Mookherjea and his Micro/Nano-Photonics group study chip-scale photonic devices, including coupled microring devices for four-wave mixing and single photon generation. His work also explores disorder effects in waveguide structures and light localization in silicon waveguides. Devices developed by his group have been used in nonlinear wavelength conversion and microfluidic applications. Mookherjea joined UCSD in 2003 and was appointed Associate Professor with tenure in 2008. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech in 1999, S.M. from MIT in 2000, and Ph.D. from Caltech in 2003. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and has received the NSF CAREER and URSI Young Scientist awards.
