Regular biography
Farinaz Koushanfar is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on developing intelligent embedded computer systems that ensure low-overhead security, reduce energy usage, and improve performance within physical resource constraints. Her work applies to Internet of Things (IoT), antipiracy systems, medical devices, automotive systems, deep learning networks, and secure bioinformatics. Koushanfar has contributed to hardware metering, TinyGarble, and scalable domain-specific machine learning solutions. She is an associate partner of the Intel Collaborative Research Institute for Secure Computing and a founder of Women ExCEl. She has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
