Eric Fullerton is a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, San Diego, affiliated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is also the Director of the Center for Magnetic Recording Research (CMRR). His research focuses on magnetic recording and nano-technologies, thin film and superlattice growth, interfacial and thin-film magnetism, x-ray and neutron scattering. Fullerton is internationally recognized for his work in thin-film magnetic and nano-materials. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2018 for his invention and development of multilayer, high-density magnetic recording media. Prior to joining UC San Diego in 2007, he was a senior manager and research scientist at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. Fullerton earned his Ph.D. at UC San Diego in 1991.
