Regular biography
Nicholas A. Antipa is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on the co-design of optical systems and algorithms, aiming to develop computational optical systems that extend capabilities beyond conventional approaches. Antipa's work merges optical models with state-of-the-art algorithms to enable joint optimization of hardware and digital components, leading to advanced imaging and display systems. His research integrates optical 3D printing, sensors, signal processing, machine learning, and AI, with a core focus on single-shot capture of high-dimensional optical signals using designed and pseudorandom phase optics. Antipa joined UC San Diego in 2020 after earning his PhD in Computational Imaging at UC Berkeley.
