Chung Jongkyeong

Chung Jongkyeong is a Professor in the Department of BIO at Seoul National University. His research interests include Cell Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, and Neurobiology, with a focus on the molecular mechanisms of Parkinson's disease, cell signaling for growth regulation, calcium homeostasis and cell metabolism, and mitochondria and organelle homeostasis. He is affiliated with the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics and the SRC Center for Systems Geroscience at Seoul National University. Chung has held various leadership roles, including Director of the NCRI Center for Energy Homeostasis Regulation and President of the Korean Drosophilists’ Association.

Jongkyeong Chung's research focuses on cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases and mitochondrial dysfunction. Key areas include the role of the PINK1–Parkin pathway in mitochondrial remodeling, the regulation of autophagy, and the interplay between Akt/PKB signaling and cancer progression. Chung's work also explores the impact of microRNAs on growth regulation and the involvement of AMP-activated protein kinase in energy-dependent cellular processes. Additionally, studies on Drosophila models highlight the connection between oxidative stress, dopaminergic dysfunction, and Parkinson's disease. Research also addresses the clinical significance of antithyroglobulin antibodies in thyroid cancer and the role of autophagy in antimycobacterial drug action.
