About
Regular biography

Professor Adrian Thomas is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Oxford. His research interests include biomechanics, aerodynamics, and evolution, focusing on the adaptations of animals for aerodynamic and biomechanical performance. He uses aerodynamic theory to predict optimal morphologies for flight ecology and tests these predictions through phylogenetically controlled comparative methods, mechanical models, and field or laboratory studies. He is Director of Studies in Biological Sciences at Lady Margaret Hall and runs the animal flight research group in Zoology. He is also chairman of the Flight section of the Bionis International Biomimetics Network and serves as an aerodynamics consultant for Airwave GMBH.
