John Belcher is the Class of 1922 Professor of Physics, Emeritus (1971-2021) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Department of PHY. His research interests lie in space plasma physics, particularly the interaction of the heliosphere with the local interstellar medium. Belcher was the principal investigator on the Voyager Plasma Science Experiment during the Voyager Neptune Encounter and is now a co-investigator on the Plasma Science Experiment on the Voyager Interstellar Mission. He has also published studies on the impact of interactive engagement techniques in introductory physics courses at MIT.
