A. Nihat Berker

A. Nihat Berker is a Professor of Physics, Emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research is best known for its focus on statistical mechanics, particularly in the study of phase transitions and critical phenomena. He has applied renormalization group theory to surface physics and materials with defects. Berker received his BS degrees in physics and chemistry from MIT in 1971 and his PhD in physics from the University of Illinois in 1977. He became a full professor of theoretical physics at MIT in 1988. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the Humboldt Research Award and the MIT School of Science Teaching Prize for Excellence in Graduate Education.
