David Vogan

David Vogan is a professor emeritus of mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the MIT mathematics faculty in 1979 after earning his B.A. and S.M. degrees from the University of Chicago in 1974 and his Ph.D. from MIT in 1976. His research interests include group representations and Lie algebras. He is a member of the research group Atlas of Lie groups and representations, which in 2007 computed the character table of the Lie group E8. He served as Department Head at MIT from 1999 to 2004 and as President of the American Mathematical Society from 2013 to 2015. He retired from MIT as Emeritus Professor in July 2020.
