Alan Edelman

Alan Edelman is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests include scientific computing, numerical linear algebra, random matrices, and computational science. He leads the MIT Julia Lab and is chief scientist at Julia Computing. Edelman is known for his work on the Julia programming language, which he co-created with Jeff Bezanson, Stefan Karpinski, and Viral B. Shah. His computational thinking class has gained global recognition for its interdisciplinary approach. He has received several awards, including the James H. Wilkinson Prize for Numerical Software and the IEEE Computer Society Sidney Fernbach Award. Edelman is a fellow of ACM, SIAM, AMS, and IEEE.
