Regular biography
Haynes Miller is Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the MIT mathematics faculty as professor in 1986. A graduate of Harvard College, he received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1974. Miller held assistant professorships at Harvard and Northwestern Universities before joining the University of Washington in 1977 and Notre Dame as professor in 1984. He retired as a Full Professor in July 2021 and is now Professor Emeritus. His research focuses on algebraic topology, homotopy theory, and homological algebra. Miller has authored several dozen research papers, edited the Handbook of Homotopy Theory (2020), and written Lectures on Algebraic Topology (2021). He has directed thesis research for 30 PhD students and been involved in numerous educational initiatives at MIT.
