Regular biography
Daniel Freedman is a Professor Emeritus of Applied Mathematics and Professor Emeritus of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is affiliated with the Department of Mathematics and has been jointly appointed with the MIT theoretical physics faculty since 2001. His research focuses on theoretical physics, including supergravity, supersymmetry, and quantum field theory. Freedman's work has emphasized the role of supersymmetry in quantum gravity and string theory, with recent attention on on-shell amplitudes in supersymmetric theories. He has held various academic and research positions, including at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at SUNY Stony Brook, and has received numerous honors, including the Dirac Medal and Prize in 1993 and the Dannie Heineman Prize in 2006.
