Regular biography
Hung Cheng is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, affiliated with the MATH department. His research interests include theoretical physics. Cheng has been associated with the theoretical physics group since 1970. He received his B.Sc and Ph.D. degrees from Caltech in 1959 and 1961, respectively. Prior to joining MIT in 1965, he held postdoctoral research appointments at Caltech, Princeton, and Harvard. In 1978, he was elected an Academician of Academia Sinica. In 2017, he received the Distinguished Achievement Award in Technology and Humanity/Humanities from the Chinese Institute of Engineers, San Francisco Bay Chapter. In 2016, he published his first novel, "Nanjing Never Cries" (MIT Press, 2016).
