Scott Sheffield is the Leighton Family Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Mathematics. He joined the MIT faculty in 2008, following a faculty appointment at the Courant Institute at NYU. Sheffield received a PhD in mathematics from Stanford University in 2003 under the supervision of Amir Dembo, and completed the AB and AM degrees in mathematics from Harvard in 1998. His research focuses on probability and mathematical physics, particularly geometrical questions in statistical physics, game theory, metric spaces, percolation theory, and random surfaces. He has received numerous awards, including the Rollo Davidson award, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, and the Clay Research Award.
