Regular biography
Paul Seidel is a Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, affiliated with the MATH department. His research interests focus on studies in symplectic topology, mirror symmetry, and homological algebra. Seidel joined the MIT math faculty as professor in 2007, following professorship appointments at Imperial College (2002-03) and the University of Chicago (2003-07). He received the Prize of the European Mathematical Society in 2000, and the Junior Faculty Mentoring Award from the University of Chicago in 2006. At the 2010 Joint Mathematics Meeting, Seidel was given the AMS Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry. In 2012 he was selected to be a Simons Investigator by the Simons Foundation and a Fellow of the AMS. He was elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2014, and held the Norman Levinson Professorship (2014-2024). During the 2014-15 academic year, Seidel was a Radcliffe fellow.
