Regular biography
David Jerison is a Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, affiliated with the MATH department. His research focuses on Fourier analysis and partial differential equations, particularly elliptic free boundary problems. Jerison received his A.B. from Harvard in 1975 and his Ph.D. from Princeton in 1980 under Elias Stein. He joined the MIT mathematics faculty in 1981 following an NSF postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago. Jerison has held various leadership roles within the department and has been involved in numerous educational initiatives, including advising undergraduate and high school research programs. He is also known for his online lectures in calculus on MIT's OCW and edX platforms. His academic career includes awards such as the Sloan Research Fellowship, Presidential Young Investigator Award, and Guggenheim Fellowship.
