Regular biography
Pavel Etingof is Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Mathematics. His research interests include representation theory, quantum groups, and noncommutative algebra. Etingof is the Chief Research Advisor of the MIT PRIMES Program since 2010. He received his M.S. in applied mathematics from the Moscow Oil & Gas Institute in 1989 and his Ph.D. in mathematics from Yale University in 1994. He joined the MIT mathematics faculty as an assistant professor in 1998 and became a professor by 2005. Etingof is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Selecta Mathematica and served as chief editor of the Journal of the AMS from 2017 to 2025. He is the author of 11 books and has received several awards, including the Clay Mathematics Institute Prize fellowship in 1999 and the Robert E. Collins Distinguished Scholar award in 2012.
