Regular biography
Tobias Holck Colding is a Cecil and Ida Green Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics. He joined the MIT mathematics faculty in 2005 and serves as Chair of the Pure Mathematics Committee. Colding completed his Ph.D. under Christopher Croke at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and previously held a faculty position at the Courant Institute, NYU. His research focuses on differential geometry, geometric analysis, partial differential equations, and low-dimensional topology. He has been recognized for his contributions to minimal surfaces and geometric flows, including the 2010 AMS Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry, and was awarded the 2026 Rolf Schock Prize in Mathematics. He has also given invited and plenary addresses at the International Congress of Mathematicians.
