Yi R. Fung

Yi R. (May) Fung is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has spent time as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence, particularly in natural language processing, multimedia knowledge reasoning, and computational social science. She has published over 30 papers at top-tier machine learning venues, covering topics such as agentic frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation, and multi-lingual sociocultural-adaptive situation understanding. Her work has received prestigious recognition, including awards at ACL and NAACL. She also serves on the organizing committee for IJCAI and as Area Chair for ACL/EMNLP/ACL-RR, and as Program Chair for ACM Multimedia System (MMSys).
