Hao Chen

Dr. Hao Chen is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). His research interests include Vision and Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on medical image analysis, machine learning, and computer vision. He leads the SMART Lab, focusing on trustworthy artificial intelligence for healthcare, and serves as Associate Director in the Center of Medical Imaging and Analysis. Dr. Chen obtained his PhD from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2017 and has over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He has received several awards, including the MICCAI Young Scientist Impact Award in 2019, and has served as an Associate Editor for multiple journals and program committee member for international conferences.

Hao Chen is a researcher at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, focusing on Foundation Model, Computational Pathology, Medical Image Analysis, Multimodal AI, and AI for Science. His work involves developing advanced algorithms for diagnostic applications in medical imaging, such as detecting lymph node metastases, segmenting liver and tumor tissues from CT volumes, and analyzing pulmonary nodules. Chen's research also includes automated melanoma recognition, gland segmentation in histology images, and brain segmentation from 3D MR images. His contributions span both supervised and unsupervised deep learning approaches for medical image analysis, emphasizing accuracy and robustness in clinical settings.
