Jiaya Jia

Jiaya Jia is a Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He joined the university in 2024 after previously serving as an assistant professor at the University of Hong Kong from 2004 to 2015. His research focuses on Vision and Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, with specific interests in image/video understanding, large models, multi-modal AI, computational imaging, and generative AI. His work has been cited over 70,000 times with an H-index of 100+. He is an IEEE Fellow and has received several awards, including the SIGGRAPH Asia Test-of-Time Award 2023, CVPR Best Paper Finalist 2022, and NPAR Best Paper Award 2012. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science jointly from HKUST and Microsoft Research in 2004.

His research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and Deep Learning, with a particular emphasis on advancing image processing and scene understanding. His work includes developing novel architectures for semantic segmentation, instance segmentation, and image deblurring. He has contributed to significant advancements in real-time image processing, motion deblurring, and object tracking. His research also explores the integration of self-attention mechanisms and large language models for reasoning segmentation.
