Ph.D. Willie Padilla

William 'Bill' M. Padilla is a distinguished professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He is also the Director of the Center for Nano and Microstructured Materials (CNMM) at UCSD. Dr. Padilla is a leading researcher in the field of metamaterials and nanophotonics, with a focus on the development of artificial electromagnetic materials that can manipulate light and other electromagnetic waves in ways not possible with natural materials. His work has had a significant impact on the fields of imaging, sensing, and communication technologies. Dr. Padilla has received numerous awards for his research, including the 2018 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS) Distinguished Lecturer Award and the 2020 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS) Technical Achievement Award. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the Optical Society of America (OSA).
