Regular biography

Maia H. Mikkelsen is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). She is also affiliated with the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) and the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) at UCSB. Her research focuses on nanophotonics, plasmonics, and quantum optics, with an emphasis on the interaction of light with nanoscale materials and devices. She has made significant contributions to the development of plasmonic nanoantennas, nanocavities, and metamaterials for applications in optical communication, sensing, and quantum information science. Mikkelsen has received numerous awards for her research, including the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award and the IEEE Photonics Society Early Career Award. She is a Fellow of the Optical Society (OSA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
