Michael Richard Gustafson

Michael Richard Gustafson is an Associate Professor of the Practice and ECE Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. His research interests include computational methods for image analysis and information extraction, discrete event simulations, and curriculum development and deployment. Gustafson has taught over 17 courses, reaching more than 9000 students, including the first-year Computational Methods in Engineering course. He holds a secondary appointment with the Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Department and has received multiple teaching awards, including the 2023 Lois and John L. Imhoff Distinguished Teaching Award and the 2005 Capers and Marion McDonald Award for Excellence in Mentoring and Advising.
