Ph.D. Marta Zaniolo

Marta Zaniolo, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Duke University. Her research focuses on water resources planning and management, drought modeling and control, flexible climate change adaptation, conceptual and data-driven systems modeling, reinforcement learning for water systems, and multi-objective control. She joined Duke CEE as an assistant professor in January 2024. Zaniolo holds a BS and MS in Environmental Engineering and a PhD in Information Technology from Politecnico di Milano. Prior to joining Duke, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the CEE department at Stanford University. Her work combines hydrology and water resources modeling with machine learning and data mining techniques to support informed decision-making about water use.
