Janja Brendel

Janja Brendel is an Assistant Professor at the School of Accountancy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School. She earned her PhD in Accounting from Humboldt University of Berlin and holds a Master’s and Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research interests include empirical financial accounting, with a focus on firms’ financial reporting and the role of information in capital markets. She has published in leading journals such as The Journal of Accounting Research and the Review of Accounting Studies. Her work has concentrated on activist investors, including short-sellers, and the cryptocurrency markets. She has also received two government grants in Hong Kong to support her research initiatives.
