David Freund

David Freund is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Cornell University. His research interests include low-dimensional topology, with a focus on algebraic invariants of knots in 3-manifolds and loops in surfaces. He has worked on problems in flat virtual knot theory, particularly involving combinatorial models of curves on surfaces. Freund has published several papers, including studies on the complexity of virtual multistrings and multistring-based matrices. He is also interested in developing course materials that encourage active student engagement through curiosity, props, and activities. His teaching responsibilities include courses such as Calculus I and Introduction to Calculus for Engineers.
