Alex Betts

Alex Betts is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Cornell University. His research focuses on arithmetic geometry, particularly arithmetic fundamental groups and Chabauty—Kim theory. He applies tools from algebraic topology to study Diophantine equations, including counting solutions and improving methods for solving them, especially through the Chabauty—Kim method. Betts has published work on local heights on hyperelliptic curves, Galois sections, and refined Selmer equations. He teaches courses such as Introduction to Number Theory and Algebra Topology.
