Regular biography
Vijayakumar Bhagavatula is the Interim Dean of the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and the U.A. & Helen Whitaker Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). He has been a faculty member at CMU since 1982 and is affiliated with the DSSC. His research interests include computer vision, pattern recognition, and signal processing for data storage systems. Bhagavatula has authored numerous publications, including a book on correlation pattern recognition, and has co-invented 15 patents. He has served in various leadership roles, including as a topical editor and associate editor for academic journals, and has chaired several conferences. His work focuses on improving biometric technologies and computer vision for connected vehicles.
