Regular biography
Prabodh Panindre is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. His research interests include artificial intelligence, fire science, firefighter safety, optics, heat transfer, nanotechnology, and microfluidics. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from New York University. His research group has received over $8.5 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for fire prevention and safety research. He led a team on the "Wind-Driven High-Rise Fires" project with the Fire Department of New York and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, resulting in new firefighting procedures adopted by FDNY. His work on an AI system for real-time fire and smoke detection using security cameras has been published in the IEEE Internet of Things Journal and has been implemented in various fire departments across the U.S.
