Regular biography
Daniel Speyer is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at New York University. His research interests include nuclear power plant systems, thermal-hydraulic safety analysis, and heat transfer. He has contributed to the analysis of nuclear reactor safety, including the Indian Point Unit 1 Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) and the development of emergency operating procedures. At NYU, he teaches courses such as Nuclear Power Plant Systems and Nuclear Engineering. He has also taught courses in thermo-fluids, meteorology, chemistry, physics, and astronomy. Speyer joined the Polytechnic Institute of NYU faculty in 2008 and previously taught at NYU Department of Applied Science. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from NYU in 1973.
