Regular biography
Nikolaos Karathanasopoulos is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. His research interests include the development and modeling of advanced materials and structures for mechanical, aerospace, and bioengineering applications. His group focuses on the creation of advanced lightweight composite materials and structures with exceptional static and dynamic performance, utilizing experimental, numerical analysis, and artificial intelligence techniques. He has worked in the private sector in Switzerland, as a CNRS visiting researcher in France, and as a research associate at ETH Zürich. He holds a master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanics, and Materials from UC Berkeley and a PhD in computational mechanics from ETH Zürich. He is a recipient of the Marie Sklodowska Curie award.
